Alumni and faculty from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design—Katayoun Amjadi, Shirin Ghoraishi, and Ziba Rajabi—are set to exhibit So Far, So Close, examining themes of displacement, memory, and identity through the lens of artists living outside Iran.

Amjadi presents a multifaceted installation, featuring four panels of painting-silkscreening, a collection of ceramic vases shaped like cigarette packs, and a video poetry piece. Amjadi’s installation reflects on the objects immigrants bring with them, which symbolize their cultural heritage and personal history.

Ghoraishi explores the realms of memory and reality through an interactive virtual reality installation. Her work investigates the interplay between real and imagined experiences, prompting viewers to question their perceptions of memory and the boundaries between the real and the unreal.

Rajabi contributes a series of watercolor monotypes inspired by Iranian architecture, book art, and calligraphy. Her prints incorporate verses from pop songs by Iranian female singers who lived in exile after the 1979 revolution. This series honors the artists who provided a sense of joy and cultural continuity through their music despite the political climate in Iran.
