The Minneapolis College of Art and Design’s 27th Annual Art Sale, held from November 21-24, showcased nearly 500 artists from the MCAD community. Among the many exceptional works on display, several artists stood out for their distinctive approaches and compelling visions. Here are five artists to keep an eye on, according to Star Tribune.

J.M. Culver ’06 explores memory and the human experience through large-scale paintings, capturing the poignancy of absence with a hauntingly minimalistic approach. Her piece That, There, a 5-by-5-foot oil and charcoal painting, invites viewers to reflect on fragmented memories and the space they occupy.

Shun Yong ’18, MFA crafts images that leave viewers contemplating the hidden stories within each frame. Yong's Kit is a striking large-scale portrait that captures a quiet moment of domestic intimacy.

Troy McCall ’08 specializes in works that blur the line between the ordinary and the unsettling. McCall draws viewers into strange and eerie narratives. His painting Snow Angels—depicting a child in the midst of creating a snow angel with a fearful expression—invites questions about innocence and unease.

Niky Motekallem ’16, MFA illustrations captivate with intricate details of nature’s beauty in decay. From lavender bunnies draped in blossoms to vibrant butterflies resting on flowers, her work combines delicate precision with ethereal grace.

Jamie Kubat ’20 creates art inspired by their experiences as an autistic person growing up in a rural environment. Jamie Kubat's hand-carved relief prints are a blend of nature, surrealism, and personal reflection. Works like Ghost, which depicts a horse surrounded by swirling smoke, explore themes of connection to the natural world and sensory experiences.
