More books, more paper, more installations. I'm also excited to examine the notion of the traditional gallery space and its relationship to viewers. What are your hopes/goals for your senior year? And beyond? I'm looking forward to earning my teaching artist minor and refining my studio practice. Beyond? I can't wait to adopt a cat, travel, and make art out in the world. Best thing you ever got on the free shelf? A really nice knit sweater-poncho (perfect for surviving these cold Minnesota winters) and a pair of ripped jeans that fit me—and my aesthetic—perfectly. Teaching Artist Practicum BiographyJamie Kubat is a Minneapolis based artist who earned their BFA in Fine Arts Studio (concentration in PrintPaperBook), with minors in both Art History and as a Teaching Artist. Their books, printmaking, and sculpture centers the narrative potential and materiality of handmade paper, fiber, and found or gathered resources from nature to create beauty and connect viewers to stories of love, loss, disruption, and healing told through a queer lens.Jamie’s goal as an educator is to foster a supportive and nonjudgmental space for people to be creative without having to ask the question why. They believe in affording people the safety to explore and be messy as a natural part of the process of gaining experience. After MCAD Jamie plans to expand their studio and teaching practices through residencies and workshops, and eventually pursue a master’s degree.Pronouns: they/them and she/her Work Link to Work Detail News about Jamie Kubat 26 December 2024Spotlight on Emerging Artists at MCAD's 27th Annual Art Sale 15 August 2024Community-Led Exhibition Spotlights Disability Justice in Twin Cities View all news
