Image Zachary Wegscheid Student ’22 Degree BFA Areas of Study Product Design Describe the work you submitted for merits. The work I submitted was that of some of my favorite projects that I have done while at MCAD. Most of them focus on form, human interaction, and the respective overall design. What's next for your practice? Anything you're really excited to make? As of now, I am looking forward to being back on campus and the collaborative environment we are all missing in the studios. I am excited to start making some furniture pieces over the summer and when we are back on campus. Why did you decide to come to MCAD? I knew that at MCAD any idea or project wouldn't be out of reach. With the community and facilities, I knew that anything would be possible and it would allow me to explore and experiment while being supported and pushed along the way. Favorite thing about college life (so far)? I enjoy most the environment in our studios, collaborating and bouncing ideas off of each other when we are all working on our projects. What's the best thing you've got from MCAD's free shelf? I got a nice floating shelf one time! It's pretty sparse looking though now. Anything you're obsessed with at the moment? I am currently enjoying sewing. I have always loved sewing and it comes as a stress reliever for me. Currently, I have been going through my closet and reworking/tailoring my clothes that don't fit just quite right. What inspires you? Working with new materials and new processes excites me and inspires me to make new things! Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it! My favorite piece would either be the Inflatable Puffer Scarf or the Three Pillars Lamp. Both projects I had so much fun making and learned a lot throughout the process. For the scarf I implemented some new sewing techniques I learned as well as created a filled object. For the lamp, I was commissioned by someone to create a lighting piece for their credenza in their home, and with that being my first household lighting object, I had fun creating a piece for the particular place I knew it was going to live.
